2 Small Air-Tankers Collide Fighting Nevada Wildfire

CALIENTE, Nev. (AP) — Two small air-tankers have collided in mid-air in southeast Nevada while battling a wildfire about 150 miles northeast of Las Vegas.

An FAA spokesman says the pilots were the only people on board the single-engine planes that collided about 1 p.m. Thursday about 17 miles southwest of Caliente.

There's been no word on their condition. The Bureau of Land Management says the fire broke out Wednesday in Rainbow Canyon. It has burned an estimated 20 square miles of small timber and grass.
