Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman opened Wednesday’s City Council meeting by hitting a familiar theme: high unemployment numbers in Nevada are being inadequately addressed and the state needs to reopen sooner rather than later.
She called on the state to use more of its employees to work on resolving the unemployment complications. She also said she has received thousands of calls and e-mails from people who fear imminent, utter poverty as much as they fear COVID-19.
She said she had confidence in business owners to make the safety of employees and customers their first concern.
Governor Sisolak has said re-openings will take place when medical experts give the go-ahead.
