Utilities Suspend Shut-Offs During Coronavirus Crisis

Customers facing hardship due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis will be spared the additional worry of whether they’ll have electricity, gas, and water — at least for now.

Coronavirus: What You Need To Know

Three municipal water districts, Southwest Gas, and NV Energy have all pledged to work with customers on flexible repayment options and suspend service disconnections for the foreseeable future. All are encouraging customers to reach them by phone or online, as lobbies close to the public.

ELECTRICITY

 

NV Energy

Date announced: March 13

Language used: “To assist during this time, NV Energy will suspend disconnects for non-payment for our customers directly impacted by this crisis. We will also waive late fees and deposits for customers who experience financial hardships related to COVID-19, or are unable to pay due to self-isolation.”

Southwest Gas

Date announced: March 13

Language used: “Effective immediately, all service disconnections have been indefinitely suspended”

Henderson

Date announced: March 16

Language used: “temporarily suspending water service shutoffs for Henderson customers that are financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic”

Language used: “temporarily suspended customer shutoffs for delinquent and/or non-payment” (spokesman Bronson Mack told Nevada Public Radio that it was “until further notice”)

Date announced: March 11

Language used: “has suspended water shut-offs at this time”
