Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and related business closures, Nevada has the highest rate of new unemployment claims in the United States according to a nonprofit think tank’s analysis.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Heartland Forward logged a 182 percent weekly jump in new unemployment insurance claims in Nevada.
Washington state is second with a 124 percent spike.
Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak called for the closure of all nonessential businesses last week. Health officials have confirmed 405 cases of the virus statewide, including 10 deaths.
