A Nevada state board has revoked the law enforcement certification of a former Clark County constable convicted of a misdemeanor fraud charge involving county money.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that the Peace Officer Standards and Training commission unanimously revoked Earl Mitchell's police powers Wednesday night because of his 2019 conviction.
Mitchell entered an Alford plea to the misdemeanor charge in July after being indicted in 2018 on four felony theft charges and one charge of fraudulent appropriation of property by a public officer. Mitchell was constable for the Henderson area.
He didn't run for re-election in 2018. A defendant using an Alford plea doesn't admit wrongdoing but acknowledges that prosecutors likely could prove their case.
