Authorities say a former state prison inmate who headed a northern Nevada drug trafficking ring has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison.

Jose Valentin Mora was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty in October in U.S. District Court in Reno to conspiracy to possess and distribute methamphetamine and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

Mora's court-appointed public defenders didn't immediately respond Tuesday to messages.

Federal officials say 15 other co-defendants pleaded guilty in the case, and one remains a fugitive. Mora is 38. He was also sentenced to five years of supervised release after prison.
