Defense Lawyer Denies Vagos Are Criminal Racketeering Gang

A defense lawyer told a federal jury that a Vagos biker club member who killed a rival Hells Angels leader from California during a 2011 gunfight in a northern Nevada casino only acted to stop an active shooting that the dead man started.

The attorney denied Wednesday that the Vagos are a broad criminal racketeering enterprise responsible for violent crimes in California, Arizona, Hawaii, Oregon, Utah and Nevada.

Closings arguments by attorneys for seven other defendants are scheduled Thursday after about five months of trial. The eight men face up to life in prison if convicted.
