Lawyer Says Prosecutors Intentionally Scuttled Bundy Case

An attorney for the sons of Nevada rancher and states' rights advocate Cliven Bundy says prosecutors deliberately scuttled their 2017 trial involving an armed standoff against U.S. officials, so the government should not be allowed to revive the case.

Attorney Alyssa Bell said Wednesday she'll argue at a March hearing that a retrial would violate the Fifth Amendment ban against being tried twice for the same offense.

She says misdeeds by prosecutors forced defendants' attorneys to ask the judge to dismiss the case midway through proceedings.

U.S. Attorney Nicholas Trutanich in Las Vegas declined to comment.
