Ex-Nevada National Guard Capt. Sentenced In Shooting Of Teen

A former captain in the Nevada Air National Guard has been sentenced to two to six years in prison for shooting an unarmed teenager twice in the leg near a park in southeast Reno.

 

John Upton was found guilty of battery with a deadly weapon following a week-long trial in October in Washoe County District Court.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports Judge Scott Freeman sentenced the 42-year-old man on Monday and credited him 78 days for time served. Upton's conviction and sentence stemmed from a shooting of a 16-year-old  Upton said was suspicious and confronted him near Huffaker Park in September 2017.
