Police: Monks Escape Gunfire Fleeing Buddhist Temple Arson

Police say Buddhist monks dodged bullets while fleeing flames at a Las Vegas-area temple by a man also believed to have set another blaze at a nearby home before shooting himself dead in a neighbor's yard.

North Las Vegas police said Monday that at least three monks escaped the flames and gunfire about 8 p.m. Sunday at the Thai-Buddhist Temple-Las Vegas.

Four other people escaped unharmed from the burning home about a block away. Police say the 38-year-old man was found dead a short time later in the backyard of a home. He was wearing boxer shorts and a handgun was found nearby.
