LAS VEGAS (AP) — Southern Nevada officials say a homeless count has found fewer people living in shelters or on the streets in 2019 than last year.
Clark County officials announced Thursday that the count conducted over two days in January recorded 5,286 people.
The county says it's the lowest number since they began the survey 12 years ago. It's required to receive grants from the U.S. government for homeless programs.
The highest count in that period was in 2009, when 13,338 people were recorded.
Clark County Social Service Director Michael Pawlak says the latest count shows southern Nevada is headed in the right direction but there's still work to be done tackling homelessness.
