North Las Vegas Looking To Buy Water Rights From LDS Church

North Las Vegas wants to buy water rights from the Mormon Church.

The North Las Vegas City Council voted unanimously to approve ongoing negotiations with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to lease or buy up to 2,300 acre-feet of the church’s water rights.

The deal will cost the city $35,000 for exclusive negotiations.

If an agreement is reached, it could mean the city accessing senior water rights to the groundwater at the Apex Industrial Park.

If the city and church can’t strike a deal, the money is refundable.
