ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A 22-year-old Elko man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his part in the kidnapping of two women that sparked a manhunt and high-speed chase last summer.
John Glenn Hebel pleaded guilty in April to conspiracy to commit kidnapping, assault with a deadly a weapon and eluding an officer as part of a plea agreement.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports he was on probation related to drug and stolen property charges for a few months when he and two other suspects allegedly abducted the women and later released them.
Hebel's lawyer blamed his actions on drug abuse dating to a young age.
Hebel apologized to the victims at Monday's sentencing. Judge Nancy Porter said she believed he was remorseful but that his crime endangered the community.
