Las Vegas Man To Sell Off Only Original Recording Of First Moon Landing

As Americans prepare to mark the 50th anniversary of the first landing on the moon, a Las Vegas man has the only surviving complete original recording of the event.

The Guardian reports that Gary George bought a large bin of videotapes from a U.S. government surplus auction more than 40 years ago, with plans to sell them to TV stations to record over.

But he held on to three tapes labelled “Apollo 11 EVA”, and those tapes have since been identified as the only surviving original recording of the first moon landing in 1969.

Later this month the tapes will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in New York, where they are expected to fetch as much as $2 million.
