ELY, Nev. (AP) — Volunteers and federal land managers have begun a cooperative restoration of a campground that burned during a wildfire last year in northeast Nevada.
The Bureau of Land Management says eight Sierra Club volunteers and two bureau specialists braved Memorial Day weekend weather including wind, rain, light snow and occasional hail to work at the Goshute Creek Campground north of Ely.
The lightning-ignited Goshute Cave Fire burned more than 50 square miles in and around the Goshute Canyon Wilderness in Elko and White Pine counties.
The group erected 250 feet of buck rail fence between the campground and creek, installed picnic tables and fire rings and sowed bitterbrush seed.
They plan another 500 feet of fence and more seeding as part of a bureau rehabilitation plan.
