Nevada At Risk For Under Counting In 2020 Census

Nevada is one of seven states most at risk for undercounting in the upcoming 2020 census.

According to a new report from the Urban Institute, a think tank that conducts social and economic research, Hispanic and black populations in those states are particularly vulnerable to being overlooked.

The census determines the allocation of more than $675 billion in federal spending on schools, transportation and health care, as well as which states gain or lose U.S. congressional seats.

Undercounting could diminish power and money in those areas for the next decade.

The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule later this month on whether the census form will have a question about whether respondents are citizens, something the report says could dampen the response among some citizens.

Nationwide the report says the census could fail to count anywhere from 900,000 to 4 million people.
