New Bill Before The Legislature Puts Cannabis Lounges On Hold

Cannabis consumption lounges in Las Vegas may be put on hold after the introduction of a bill in the Nevada Assembly.

The bill would create a Cannabis Compliance Board to help craft regulations and policies for cannabis use in Nevada.

If it passes, the bill would prohibit local governments from issuing licenses for consumption lounges, requiring the board to first conduct a study of cannabis lounges.

Cannabis consultant Jason Sturtsman told KSNV-TV that such legislation would be a step backward for the cannabis industry, saying that lawmakers should be able to use the City of Las Vegas' ordinance on social-use venues as their study material.

Governor Steve Sisolak’s office issued a statement saying that consumption lounges have a place in the future of Nevada’s cannabis industry and that the governor believes that the CCB will add to the job creation and economic growth our cannabis industry has brought to the state.
