Utah Lieutenant Governor Announces 2020 Run For Governor

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's lieutenant governor says he will seek the Republican nomination for governor in 2020.

Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox launched his run Tuesday morning, making the campaign announcement via Twitter.

Cox entered the state office in October 2013 under Republican Gov. Gary Herbert.

Herbert and Cox won reelection in 2016. Herbert has said he does not plan to seek a third term in office.

Cox previously served as a state representative and a Sanpete County commissioner. He also was on the Fairview City Council before serving as the city's mayor.

Cox has worked as vice president and general counsel for the telecommunications company CentraCom.
