RENO, Nev. (AP) — The National Weather Service has upgraded a winter storm watch to a winter storm warning for the Lake Tahoe area beginning late Tuesday as a weather system packing potentially heavy snow and 100 mph winds makes its way into the region.

The service says a 101 mph gust of wind was recorded Monday at the Mount Rose summit southwest of Reno.

The storm warning runs from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 11 p.m. Wednesday in the mountains around Tahoe, where up to 2 feet of snow is possible at the highest elevations.
