Northern Nevada Tribe Wants Gov. Sisolak To Reverse Deal On Contaminated Site

Another tribe in Northern Nevada wants Nevada’s new governor to reverse a deal made under the previous administration to clean-up the Anaconda Copper Mine near Yerington.

The chairman of the Walker River Paiute Tribe wants Governor Steve Sisolak to invite the Environmental Protection Agency to resume oversight of the cleanup and hold owner BP accountable for it.

Amber Torres said in a letter the process by which the state took responsibility was misguided and could make it more likely BP could dodge accountability for the cleanup. The governor’s office has yet to respond to the letter.
