Prolonged Government Shutdown Worries Those Using Federal Food Programs

As the partial government shutdown enters its 25 th day, some are wondering what the future will hold for those relying on food stamps.

Funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program has been extended through February, but any prolonged lapse could have a big impact on Nevada.

About 14 percent of the state’s population is enrolled in the program, translating to more than 437,000 people who rely on food stamps.
