Clark County Issues Smoke Advisory For New Year's Holiday

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Clark County officials have issued a warning to residents about the potential for smoke in the air from fireworks over the New Year's holiday.

The county's air quality department issued the advisory Friday. It covers Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

Officials say smoke is made of small particles and other pollutants that can aggravate respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and asthma or heart disease. Depending on the conditions, they say it may be best for children, the elderly and people with respiratory ailments and heart disease to stay indoors.

The agency tracks air pollution through a network of monitoring sites throughout the Las Vegas Valley. Information collected from the sites is accessible online .
