Northwest Las Vegas Farm Helps Rescue Ailing Animals

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A farm in northwest Las Vegas has been rescuing abandoned, injured, sick and old animals for years.

Barn Buddies Rescue owner Sharon Linsenbardt says the property's mission is to be a safe haven for any farm animal in need. She has run the farm since the 1960s and established the nonprofit five years ago.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the farm is home to several animals, including the lone survivor of a group of starving calves and a brown mare abandoned in the desert with maggot-infested wounds.

Linsenbardt says every animal at the farm has come "from an irresponsible situation."

But caring for the animals isn't cheap. Food alone adds up to over $7,000 a month.

The facility has a suggested $6 donation for admission and also allows visitors to sponsor an animal.

How is Las Vegas' healthcare system really doing, and what does it mean for you and your family? Desert Companion's Health Issue takes a deep dive into these questions and explores how heart-centered business leaders prove that doing good benefits the bottom line.
