Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto says a thorough FBI investigation of allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is the best way for him to clear his name.
In an interview Wednesday with the Nevada Independent, Cortez Masto said such an investigation would also provide a fair hearing for the victims and dispel allegations that the accusers are politically motivated.
She also believes the Kavanaugh hearings give the Senate a chance to change the culture of victim-blaming in sexual assault cases as it assesses the allegations against Kavanaugh.
Cortez Masto has already said she’ll vote against Kavanaugh’s confirmation, but she also she is basing her decision on his court opinions and not on the sex-abuse allegations.
