LAS VEGAS (AP) — House Speaker Paul Ryan is giving a campaign boost to former U.S. Rep. Cresent Hardy as the Republican candidate faces a tight race for the Nevada House seat he once held.
The highest-ranking Republican in the U.S. House of Representatives made an appearance with Hardy in Las Vegas on Wednesday to discuss a local criminal justice program that helps ex-offenders readjust to society.
Ryan's political office confirmed that the speaker also attended a fundraiser in Las Vegas for Hardy. No further details were available.
Hardy served one term in a southern Nevada district before losing re-election in 2016. He is in a rematch against former Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford.
Horsford held the 4th Congressional District for a single term before losing to Hardy in 2014.
