Thursday morning the first portion of the interstate that will eventually connect Mexico with Canada will open near Boulder City.
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is hosting an opening event that will feature U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.
Officials say the new stretch of road will save commuters 30 minutes of drive time from going through Boulder City.
