LAS VEGAS (AP) — Casino operator Caesars Entertainment is building a meeting and event space complex near the High Roller observation wheel in Las Vegas.
The company broke ground Monday on the conference center that will feature indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, including ballrooms and boardrooms.
It is scheduled to open in April 2020.
More than 6.6 million people attended a convention in Las Vegas last year.
Caesars CEO Mark Frissora says it is often overlooked that Las Vegas is "the global leader" for meetings, conferences and conventions.
The company says the 550,000-square-foot Caesars Forum will have the two largest pillar-less ballrooms in the world, equivalent to three ice hockey rinks.
Meanwhile, the planned Forum Plaza will offer 100,000 square feet of outdoor gathering space.
The project is expected to create 1,000 construction jobs.
