Containment Of Massive Northern Nevada Fire Expected Friday

A wildfire in Northern Nevada has grown to nearly 60-miles long and is still the largest fire burning in the country right now.

According to an update from the National Interagency Fire Center, the Martin Fire had grown to 686 square miles Wednesday morning. That’s bigger than the entire Lake Tahoe Basin.

Firefighters have managed to reach 48 percent containment although it remains an active threat with hot and windy conditions expected throughout the week.

There are more than 630 people working on the fire, including nine helicopters, 25 engines, 10 water tenders and eight dozers. The anticipated containment date is Friday, July 20.

NASA has said the fire is visible from space, with a satellite image capturing the blazes footprint.
