Las Vegas Pulls World Cup Host City Bid

Las Vegas has pulled its bid to be considered a host city for the 2026 World Cup.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported city officials realized the requirements were just too costly.

World Cup games were among the events touted as possibilities for the stadium currently under construction for the Raiders.

It was cited as justification for spending $750 million in public funds for the $1.8 billion project.

The 2018 World Cup began Thursday in Russia, with 32 international teams.

It is considered one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world. Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President and Chief Operating Officer Steve Hill said the city would have been required to provide more than $100 million in improvements to even host a preliminary round.
