CCSD Expected To Miss Reorganization Deadline

The Clark County School District is expected to miss its state-mandated deadline to reorganize.

In the 2015 legislative session, lawmakers passed a state law that CCSD must reorganize by January 15, 2018.

The district won’t face penalties or sanctions if it is found to be in violation of the law.

Instead, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Superintendent of Education Steve Canavero will step in to issue a corrective action plan.

AB469 aimed to give individual schools more autonomy from the fifth largest school district in the country.

CCSD’s Board of Trustees has taken issue with parts of the law since it was passed, at times calling it an unfunded mandate.

This year district leadership was also dealing with a $60 million budget shortfall.
