With a new year comes a new law governing motorcycle permits.
Assembly Bill 261 addresses a loophole in the law that allowed adults to continually apply for an instruction permit for motorcycles without going through the skills test to receive a motorcycle license.
According to Kevin Malone of the Department of Motor Vehicles, the law now limits the validity of the instruction permit to six months instead of one year and it can only be renewed only once every five years.
Also, if a motorcycle rider fails the skills test twice, he or she is permanently barred from getting another instruction permit in Nevada.
However, the law also allows riders to take an approved Motorcycle Safety Foundation course and show that certificate to the DMV, instead of taking the skills test.
