Reno Family Court Judge Appointed To State Court Seat

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Reno-area family court judge will fill an open northern Nevada state court seat.

Gov. Brian Sandoval announced late Wednesday that he picked Egan Walker from three finalists for the vacancy left by the death in October of Chief Washoe County District Court Judge Patrick Flanagan.

Walker can run for election next year to serve the remaining two years of the judicial term.

Sandoval originally appointed Walker to be a Washoe County Family Court judge in 2011, and Walker was elected to the remainder of the term in 2012. He was re-elected for a six-year term in 2014.

Walker is a former U.S. Army Guard flight and combat medic who worked in the prosecutors' offices in Carson City and Reno and currently serves on the Nevada State Juvenile Justice Oversight Commission.
