Parents Of Man Who Died In Custody Of Washoe County Jail Settle Lawsuit

The parents of a man who died after a violent struggle with Washoe County Deputies have agreed to settle their wrongful death lawsuit for $500,000.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the Washoe County Commission is scheduled to vote next week on whether to pay the settlement to the family.

The incident took place in August 2016, where deputies were attempting to book a 35-year-old man into jail.

A video of the struggle that ensued shows the deputies putting a spit hood over his face, kicking him in the side, and using armbar holds while pinning the man on his stomach, making it difficult for him to breathe.

The Washoe County Medical Examiner listed his death as homicide due to complications of physical restraint.
