Assemblyman Watkins Not Running For Re-Election

Freshman Democratic Assemblyman Justin Watkins said he won’t run for re-election in 2018.

This makes Watkins at least the sixth Assembly member who won’t be back next session.

The lawmaker from Las Vegas told the Nevada Independent that he didn’t want the legislative responsibilities to continue taking a toll on his family life.

Other Assembly members who have announced plans not to return for another term include Democrats Nelson Araujo and James Ohrenschall, as well as Republicans Ira Hansen and Keith Pickard.

Watkins said he wasn’t closing the door on potential future political runs and was not facing any outside pressure to sit out in the upcoming cycle.
