CCSD Looking To Offer Furlough Days Instead Of Layoffs

The Clark County School District is trying to avoid cutting as many jobs as projected in the budgeting process.

The school board of trustees unanimously decided Thursday to put furlough time in place to offset the cost of preserving 47 currently-filled support staff jobs.

Individual schools are expected to negotiate as many as two furlough days with union representatives.

If unions do not approve the furlough days, the district will face the possibility of making more cuts beyond the currently proposed $4.1 million.

So far, 27 unfilled positions and three administrative jobs have been eliminated, along with some operations costs.
