Police: Man Held In Fatal Sidewalk Punch Has Criminal Past

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Police say a 27-year-old ex-felon held in the one-punch killing of a California father of five outside a downtown Las Vegas lounge served prison time in Nevada in a 2008 attempted murder and battery with a weapon case.

James Michael Beach was arrested Sunday after police say he was identified in security videos leaving the sidewalk scene where 45-year-old Luis Campos was fatally injured early April 30. Beach also uses the name, James Michael Garcia.

Campos died last Thursday. His wife, Julie Campos, of La Puente, California, told reporters Monday their family is devastated by what she calls a fatal "sucker punch."

Police say Campos and his brother were in a bachelor party standing in line outside a club when Beach stopped while walking past, asked what Campos was looking at, and punched him.
