Virginia City Basketball Coach Under Fire For 'Scalping' Text

The Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe has asked for an investigation into a text message a Virginia City High School basketball coach sent to one of his players.

The Reno Gazette Journal reportsVirginia City girls basketball coach Ken Fujii sent a text to one of his players that said, “get ready to scalp or be scalped.”

Fujii sent the text message on January 13, hours before his team faced off against the Pyramid Lake High School Basketball team. Fujii said that at the time, he did not realize the text would be offensive at the time.

Tribe and school officials learned of the scalping text after Fujii’s player published a screenshot of the text on Twitter. Fujii said he sent a letter of apology on Saturday to the school and said his comments were a poor choice of words.
