Elko County Health Board Concerned Over Local Hospital Costs

Elko County's health board is raising concerns about an area hospital.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports the board has criticized the owner of the Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital because of the cost of treatment at that facility.

In a letter to the hospital's owner – LifePoint Health – the board said costs at the Northeastern Nevada Regional Hospital were much higher than at other comparable hospitals both in and out of Nevada.

It went on to say that many residents had complained to the health board about the increased costs, and the hospital's purported practice of hassling patients for bills to be paid very quickly after treatment ends.

The board also said a number of the area's employers are directing their staff to travel to different medical centers to seek treatment because the cost of routine care at that hospital is too high for them to bear.
