Tonopah Weighing Annexation

Tonopah is considering expanding its city limits.

The Tonopah Times-Bonanza and Goldfield News reports city leaders have developed a plan where they'd annex 516 square miles of unincorporated Nye County.

That would increase the size of the city by nearly eight fold.

No residential property is part of the annexation proposal.

Much of the land in question is owned by the BLM and energy firms at present.

The city says it wants to annex the land to increase its tax base.

Doing so would help Tonopah regain money it gave to the county as part of the Northern Nye County Hospital District.
