Las Vegas Immigrants Tell Their Stories At Democratic Convention

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas residents who took the stage at the Democratic National Convention say they know Hillary Clinton will fight to keep immigrant families together.

Eleven-year-old Karla Ortiz said Monday that she's scared most days that her parents will be deported. She talked about how she shared her concerns with Clinton during a campaign stop in Las Vegas earlier this year, and Clinton called her brave and told her she would worry on her behalf.

Footage of the encounter became part of a campaign ad.

Immigration activist Astrid Silva told how she came to the U.S. in a raft when she was 4, but her family lived in fear of getting caught by immigration authorities. She said her family is still in the U.S. because of people like Sen. Harry Reid.
