KINGMAN, Ariz. (AP) — Officials say northwestern Arizona is seeing depleting aquifers due to growth and water use by farming operations.
The Kingman Daily Miner reports Arizona Department of Water Resources said last week established farming operations are having a huge impact on the water supply in Mohave County.
Officials also said the state has precious little control over water in Mohave County or any county in Arizona.
Kingman is home to the Northwest Basins Planning Area and is one of three the state designated a top priority for study due to a dramatic expansion in farming operations. La Paz and Cochise counties also have been labeled a priority.
La Paz County Supervisor Holly Irwin says companies from California and overseas have purchased thousands of acres of land in her county for crops.
