Vashti Cunningham Makes History With Spot On U.S. Team For Rio Olympics

EUGENE, Ore. — An 18-year old rising star in track and field is headed from Las Vegas to the Olympics in Rio next month. 

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports Bishop Gorman graduate Vashti Cunningham took second place in U.S. Track and Field Trials finals Sunday.

Two months ago, the daughter of former UNLV and NFL quarterback Randall Cunningham decided to pursue a professional high jump career, signing a deal with Nike.

She’s the youngest woman to represent the states in Olympic Track & Field since 2000.  She’s also poised to be the youngest to go to the Games in forty years.
