Las Vegas Parking Tickets May Soon Be Payable With Food

If you get a parking ticket in the City of Las Vegas, you may soon be able to pay it off with something other than money.

Wednesday, the Las Vegas City Council approved a plan where scofflaws would be able to pay parking fines with a donation of food, toys or school supplies.

As it stands, the program would take place twice a year.

Though the specific time periods for those donation drives have yet to be determined, council said likely times could be around the start of the school year and the end of the year.

You would have to make a donation equal to or greater than the amount of your ticket, and it would have to be written within a certain timeframe to be eligible – so no holding on to parking tickets for months to wait to make a donation instead.

Mayor Carolyn Goodman and councilmember Lois Tarkanian voted against the plan, saying in part it was too complicated.
