Reported Bear Sighting Near Carson City Park

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Carson City parks officials are warning residents to be on the lookout after a reported sighting of a female bear with cubs near Fuji Park.

City staff say they spotted the bears in the Clear Creek area, west of the park. A press release from the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department says the sighting is not uncommon, as the Clear Creek Corridor is a natural bear habitat.

Officials are advising visitors that a female bear can get defensive and aggressive to protect their cubs. They are warning people to avoid contact with the bears, which are especially active during the night and early morning hours.

The Nevada Department of Wildlife has been notified and will install bear warning signs at the park.
