Reno Doctor Sued Over Overdose

The Reno doctor at the center of a federal investigation into an illegal prescription drug ring is being sued by the parents of a 33-year-old overdose victim who say Dr. Robert Rand ignored their warnings and continued to increase the strength of their son's painkiller dosage right up until his death.

Michael Yenick's family filed the wrongful death suit last week accusing Rand of negligence, malpractice, deceptive trade practices and neglect of a vulnerable person.

Rand was arrested 10 days ago along with eight other people accused of conspiring to operate a pill mill out of Rand's family practice and a Reno car dealership.

The 53-year-old physician is expected to make his initial appearance later this week in U.S. District Court in Reno. He's currently being held without bail.

Yenick died in October.
