LAS VEGAS (AP) — A piece of Las Vegas history has been removed from the Strip as crews worked to take down the Riviera name from the former hotel and casino.
The Riviera sign was removed Monday ahead of the building's demolition this summer and will be kept at a museum for neon signs being developed in Reno.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority purchased the Riviera in February 2015 for $182.5 million plus $8.5 million in related transaction costs. It plans to replace the 26-acre site with an expanded Las Vegas Convention Center.
