LVMPD Says Friendly Fire Killed K-9

An official says friendly fire killed a Las Vegas police dog during a running gunbattle that also wounded a man who police say killed two neighbors and shot at officers last week in a residential neighborhood.

Clark County Undersheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters Monday that four officers fired 23 shots, and 31-year-old suspect James Craig Simpson fired several more during the noon Thursday shooting on Fast Elk Street.

McMahill didn't provide details about the deaths of 31-year-old Branden Hughes and his mother, 46-year-old Felicia Simone Wimberly-Hughes.
