Erquiaga: Nevada's Renewable Energy Reputation Is Damaged

A top aide to Gov. Brian Sandoval says Nevada's reputation on renewable energy has been damaged and needs to be restored.

Sandoval's Chief Strategy Officer Dale Erquiaga made the comments Tuesday as a newly reconvened energy task force meets to discuss hot-button energy issues. They come in the wake of a recent rate hike for rooftop solar customers that's attracted criticism and prompted layoffs in the industry.

Erquiaga reminded the task force that they aren't the Public Utilities Commission and won't be setting new rates for solar customers, but can offer advice on how to "grandfather" existing customers into more favorable rates.

The group will also come up with recommendations on improving the electric grid and encouraging clean energy developments. They have until June 1 to propose potential legislative changes.
