Wal-Mart In Sparks A No-Go Due To Pharmacy Restriction

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — A planned Wal-Mart store in Sparks is no longer happening.

The Reno Gazette-Journal reported Friday that the retail giant has nixed plans to put in a location at the Outlets at Sparks because of issues involving pharmacy services.

Wal-Mart spokeswoman Delia Garcia said in an email that development restrictions prohibiting the store from operating a pharmacy at the Legends at Sparks Marina was the main factor for the canceled plans.

The news comes in the wake of Wal-Mart's announcement in January that it was closing 154 stores nationwide.

Among the locations that closed was a Las Vegas Wal-Mart supercenter. Most were small format stores called Wal-Mart Express, which were launched as a test program in 2011. No stores in northern Nevada were affected.
