Elko County Sales Tax Hike Could Take Effect In July

Elko County's proposed sales tax increase may take effect this summer.

The Elko Daily Free Press reports the county commission will meet tomorrow to put the finishing touches on an ordinance approved earlier this month.

Elko County expects to collect $3.5 million in additional revenue with the quarter-percent tax increase in place.

Revenues would be used to fund improvements for roads and for the county's fire district.

Some of that money would go directly to cities for roadway projects, with monies disbursed based on population size.

If the ordinance is finalized, the tax increase would take effect on July 1.
